Bags or supersacks of ultra-high performance concrete premix need to be kept dry before they are mixed. Any water intrusion can prematurely hydrate the cementitious materials, causing clumping and hindering material property development. Similar care should be taken for steel fibers, which can rust with water exposure and damage the hydration process of the UHPC.
Tarping can be used to cover the supersacks and pallets of fibers, provided they are strapped or weighed down. Temporary indoor storage, such as Conex containers, can also be used, though consideration should be made for available square footage.
Admixtures are typically delivered in plastic containers and do not need protection from precipitation but should be kept above freezing if working in cooler conditions.
